Tourism in Baix Pallars
Discover an authentic land where nature, history and culture go hand in hand

A place with soul in the south of Pallars Sobirà
In the south of the Pallars Sobirà region, where nature unfolds with strength and serenity, lies the municipality of Baix Pallars. A land of great natural and heritage wealth that invites you to experience it both calmly and deeply.
Four former municipalities, one shared heart
Baix Pallars was created in 1969 through the union of four former municipalities: Gerri de la Sal, Peramea, Baén and Montcortès. Covering 130 km², it includes 28 settlements, six of which are now abandoned, yet still keep the memory of the past alive among stones, terraces and old paths.

Villages with character and history
The enclosed villages of Gerri de la Sal and Peramea stand out in particular. They have been declared Cultural Assets of National Interest for their rich architectural heritage and their unspoilt charm. The Noguera Pallaresa river flows through the municipality and divides the land into two slopes, bringing freshness and life to this river landscape that transforms everything it touches.

A protected natural setting
A large part of the municipality lies within the Protected Natural Areas network, including:
- The Collegats Gorge
- The karst lake of Montcortès
- The Boumort mountain range, part of the Boumort National Game Reserve
This living, ever-changing landscape, home to diverse wildlife and spectacular forests, exists in harmony with traditional human activity: farming and livestock raising that have managed to respect the balance of the surrounding environment.
A land with living memory
Orígens Geopark: a recognition of the land
Baix Pallars is the only municipality in Pallars Sobirà that forms part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Orígens, a distinction that recognises its unique geological and heritage value.

From prehistory to the present day
Traces of human activity stretch from prehistory to medieval times. In the Pla de Corts area, dolmens and Bronze Age archaeological sites have been preserved, while the architectural heritage takes us back to the Middle Ages through elements such as:
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Gerri
The Salt House and the former salt pans
The Romanesque bridge that crosses the river
Various churches, towers and historic buildings scattered throughout the area
Industrial heritage: a dialogue with water
The salt pans of Gerri, the water channels of the Enseu ravine and the riverside mills bear witness to a community that has known how to make use of natural resources with intelligence and respect, enriching both its identity and its cultural landscape.
