Era d’Ortega
culture, heritage and rural life in Peramea

Located in the heart of Pla de Corts, Era d’Ortega is much more than a physical space: it is a living centre of cultural activity that keeps the memory and essence of rural life in Pallars Sobirà alive. Today it is home to the association Lo Vent de Port, active since 1987 and committed to the recovery of heritage and the cultural promotion of Baix Pallars.

An architecture that speaks of how we used to live

Era d’Ortega preserves the traditional structure of a self-sufficient rural family unit. The space revolves around the threshing floor —the central courtyard where grain was threshed— and includes buildings such as the hayloft, the estissora and the animal pens, forming a true agricultural and livestock production unit.

Peramea: a village with soul and history

One of the best-preserved medieval settlements in Catalonia

Peramea, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1996, preserves a compact and evocative urban fabric that speaks clearly of its past. It is an essential destination for anyone who wants to discover what life in the mountains was like in medieval times.

Guided visit: architecture and traditional trades

The visit, lasting one hour and a half, combines two complementary perspectives:

  • Medieval public spaces: the castle rock, the prison, the gateways, arcaded streets, manor houses and the church.
  • Domestic life and traditional trades: the visit includes the forge and a neighbour’s house with spaces such as the bread oven, the olive press, the cellar and the calassos (former granaries), showing the central role of the family as a productive unit.

A natural setting full of legends

Peramea stretches across natural terraces that have earned it the name Pla de Corts. From this vantage point, you can see the Collegats gorge and the imposing mountain range of the Sleeping Giantess, a protective symbol of the area. The landscape is full of natural and heritage treasures such as:
