Montcortès Lake

Pla de Corts: nature, history and legends
Between the Noguera Pallaresa and Vall Fosca stretches Pla de Corts, an undulating plateau where century-old oak woods and farming and livestock holdings coexist. This landscape, as alive as it is ancestral, is dominated by the unmistakable silhouette of the mountain known as the Sleeping Giantess, which towers over the Serra de Peracalç. A land where nature and legend go hand in hand.
A landscape inhabited for thousands of years
Thanks to its gentle relief and mild climate, Pla de Corts has been inhabited since the Early Bronze Age. Even today, traces of that ancient human presence can still be seen, such as dolmens and remains of former settlements. A walk through this land is also a journey through time.

Montcortès Lake: a karst mirage in the Pyrenees
Montcortès Lake is a natural jewel included in the Natura 2000 Network. With a depth of nearly 30 metres, it stands out as the only lake in the Pyrenees of Lleida with neither a dam nor glacial origin: it is of karst origin, fed by an underground spring. Beyond its geological uniqueness, it offers rich wildlife and beautiful scenery, making it ideal for birdwatching and for quietly enjoying nature.
Fairy Chimneys: natural sculptures
On the way to la Pobleta de Bellveí, the landscape offers us another wonder: the Fairy Chimneys. These geological formations are the result of water erosion on soft rock, creating surprising shapes that spark the imagination.
