Vall d’Ancs
silence, nature and spirituality in the heart of the Pyrenees

A land to explore at a gentle pace
The Vall d’Ancs is one of the most serene and lesser-known corners of Baix Pallars. Ideal for lovers of silence and nature in its purest state, this solitary valley offers the perfect setting for hiking, contemplation and connection with the Pyrenean landscape.
This valley invites you to a slow exploration, among dense forests, open skies and ancient paths. Among its most notable routes is the ascent to the hermitage of Sant Quiri, located on the border between Baix Pallars and Vall Fosca. From its privileged position, the view opens out over both territories, offering an impressive panorama of the Pyrenees.
The hermitage of Sant Quiri: spirituality and panoramic views
The hermitage, with its single nave and raised apse, remains humble and solitary. It is reached via the Mencui track, crossing meadows and forests full of memory: a land of shepherds and hunters, with a strong livestock and hunting tradition that still shapes the character of this place today.

The village of Ancs: memory at altitude
The valley takes its name from the small settlement of Ancs, located at 1,457 metres above sea level, on the slopes of the mountain of Sant Quiri. Its natural setting is solid and captivating: sharply cut mountains, intense greenery and a beauty that commands respect. To the north of the village, there is an old aqueduct —probably Romanesque— crossing the Grasseta ravine. In the past it carried water to the village; today it is a silent testimony to popular ingenuity and to the harmony between human beings and the land.
