Collegats Gorge

Collegats Gorge: a mythical gateway to Pallars Sobirà

The Collegats Gorge is one of the natural gateways into Pallars Sobirà, following the winding course of the Noguera Pallaresa River between the mountain ranges of Peracalç and Boumort. Stretching over 5 km, this impressive narrow pass has for centuries been a route of passage, a setting for legends and a source of inspiration for artists and poets.

A natural heritage to preserve

Collegats is a place of great geological, ecological and cultural value. In recent years, projects have been launched to recover old paths, and there has been a proposal to declare it a Protected Natural Area, in order to ensure the preservation of its beauty and biodiversity.

L’Argenteria and Sant Pere de les Maleses: key landmarks in the gorge

The gorge has two especially narrow and spectacular points:

Sant Pere de les Maleses

An ancient monastery carved into the rock, recalling the strong spiritual and cultural presence in this rugged place.

L’Argenteria

One of the most singular geological formations in the Pyrenees: travertines shaped by water, which in winter freeze into ice chandeliers. This place inspired Antoni Gaudí in the design of La Pedrera and Jacint Verdaguer in his poem Canigó. Since 1983, a plaque commemorates the poet’s passage through this magical place.
