El Planter de Gerri
Nature, education and living heritage

Beside the Enseu ravine, on the outskirts of Gerri de la Sal, we find a singular space that combines forest history, environmental education and nature interpretation: El Planter, a former forest nursery converted into an interpretive space.
A space with forest roots
Formerly known as El Vivero, this space was part of the forest hydrological project of the Enseu torrent. Its main function was to produce plants to reforest degraded woodlands, after decades of exploiting resources such as firewood, charcoal and timber, especially active until the 1970s.
A space open to everyone
Today, El Planter offers a free self-guided visit with information panels and educational materials. It also includes a bird of prey interpretation area: life-size reproductions made from papier-mâché that allow visitors to recognise the area’s most emblematic species, such as the bearded vulture, Egyptian vulture and golden eagle.

A recovery and outreach project
In 2006, thanks to the collaboration between Forestal Catalana, the Baix Pallars Town Council and the association Lo Pi Negre, El Planter was transformed into an Interpretation Area for the Natural Spaces of the Pallaresa Pre-Pyrenean Ranges.
The project’s objectives are clear:
- Recover the cultural and forest heritage of the area
- Create a space for educational use and environmental awareness
- Preserve native seed species endangered with extinction
