Cabestany

Cabestany

Cabestany is a small hamlet of six houses and the church, located in the western part of the municipality of Baix Pallars, at 1,124 metres above sea level, on top of a hill overlooking Lake Montcortès (hence its name), with excellent views over the lake.

It is an ideal place for hiking, mountain biking and birdwatching, as well as observing other native wildlife. For photography lovers, the combination of the village and the lake creates a picture-postcard image.

The first documentary references date from the 11th century and link it to the sphere of influence of the monastery of Gerri. The church of Sant Romà, located in the centre of the village, has a single nave and a tall, narrow bell tower, and dates from the 18th century.
