Pujol
Pujol
Pujol is located in the southwestern sector of the municipality of Baix Pallars, at 836 metres above sea level, at the confluence of the Noguera Pallaresa river and the Barranc de Morreres, with excellent views over the Collegats gorge and the mountain known as la Geganta. Its proximity to Lake Montcortès and the Pla de Corts makes it an ideal place for hiking and cycling.
The first documentary mention of Pujol dates from the mid-10th century, when it appears in the act of consecration of the church of Sant Pere de Sestui (possibly located in the Pla de Corts), when the hamlet of Pujol was granted to the new church. The parish church of Pujol is Sant Andreu (formerly dedicated to Sant Pere), and it belonged to the monastery of Gerri. Today, no remains of the old Romanesque church survive. Inside, a 13th-century carving of the Virgin is preserved. In Pujol, there are also the chapels of Mare de Déu del Roser and Sant Antoni Abat.
Pujol had its own municipality until the mid-19th century, when it was incorporated into Peramea. Among the village houses, Casa Senallé stands out above all (today known as Casa Vilanova), a manor house from the mid-16th century, which belonged to the Barons of Senaller i Gramenet, a title created during the reign of Charles IV. Today, it is a rural tourism accommodation.
